Hello, how are you？　It is getting hotter and hotter and more and more humid now that the rainy season has set in.　UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “The era of global warming has ended; the era of global boiling has arrived. “

To my surprise, at least 1300 people have died during the hajj pilgrimage, which took place during intense heat in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam that all Muslims with the means must complete at least once in their lives. It is said 1.8 million pilgrims participated this year. For the past several years, the mainly outdoor rituals have fallen on during the sweltering Saudi summer. Temperatures in Mecca this year climbed as high as 51.8C.

We have no choice but to cope with this year’s summer searing heat and to adapt ourselves to the extremely muggy weather. Can we evolve ourselves into heat-resistant creatures so that we might be able to survive the burning hell?

梅雨入りし、蒸し暑い日が毎日じりじりとレベルを上げてやってきます。サウジアラビアのメッカでは、hajjといわれるイスラム教徒のメッカ巡礼で1300人以上の人が51.8℃もある屋外での儀式に参加して、暑さのせいで亡くなりました。日本の夏も相当なものです。暑さに適応するために進化し灼熱地獄を生き残れるでしょうか。残念ながら、私たちは短期間では極限環境生物クマムシのように進化することができません。世界の平均気温を産業革命以前と比べて1.5℃以内の上昇に抑えるという目標のため、地球環境を守るため、私たちに何ができるかさらにしっかり考えていかなければなりません。そして個人レベル社会レベルでできることは実行していかなければなりません。Ecoな活動がどんどん広がるように注視し、そしてできれば参画していきましょう。
