LETTER FROM HAPPY ENGLISH SCHOOL

Hello, how are you doing? It is getting colder and colder and unfortunately the coronavirus is more and more spreading. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we manage to offer in-person lessons at the moment by taking precautions: mask-wearing, hand-washing and social distancing. Of course, we owe students and parents for their cooperation to hold lessons. Yet, furthermore, we need to ask each student to stay safe and healthy to get through the hard time.

Our school is going to get two Daikin air-conditioners installed each with a ventilation function in the classrooms so that we will not have to keep the windows open all the time during the class. It is expected to be getting even colder day by day and we cannot cope with the cold in the classroom with the windows and doors open. Drafts really tell on us. We could catch a cold in the drafty room in spite of ventilation on our mind to protect ourselves from the virus.

We usually sanitize desks, chairs and doorknobs so that nobody will get infected with the virus. The COVID-19 is very stealthy and insidious taking advantage of its invisibility to us. We are extremely vulnerable to harmful creatures and organisms we cannot see well with our eyes: ticks, germs, bacteria, and chemical substances, such as PM2.5 and radiation. We need to update ourselves to take accurate and proper preventive measures to fight any existential threat. For the time being, it is the coronavirus pandemic.

次第に寒くなり、暖房とヒートテックやジャケット・コートが必要になってきました。コロナ感染拡大防止のため、当教室では窓やドアを開けて授業していましたが、ダイキンの換気付きのエアーコンを入れることによって、窓やドアの開放は必要なくなると思います。隙間風も曲者で、そのために風邪をひくようなことがあってもいけません。

感染拡大防止のために、机や椅子やドアノブなど皆さんが手を触れるところはいつも消毒しています。そしてマスクをし、手洗いや消毒をし、個別の机で社会的距離を取って、授業を行っています。それでも、授業を対面で行っていけるのは、生徒の皆さんそして保護者の方の協力のおかげでもあります。ここに感謝いたします。どうも有難うございます。

今年度は、行事も満足にできず、不本意であるかもしれませんが、元来コツコツと積み上げていくことで英語の上達があるわけです。家にいる時間が長くなり、他のことに時間を取られることないのなら、どっぷり英語の学習ができなくても、英語学習で自分に何かを課して、隙間時間や短い時間でいいので、単語を覚えたり、文法の問題をやったり、いろんな文を読んでみたり、日本語を英訳してみたり、話す練習をしたり、いろんな英語を聞いてみたり、これならできると思えるものを、習慣にしてやってみてください。

最初は大変でも、必ず、段々できてくるようになります。それぞれペースは違いますが、続けることが最も肝心です。英語ができる自分を目標にして、自分の意志で足らないところを補う学習、練習、トレーニングを行っていってください。

楽しみで取り組める、英語の漫画、映画、ドラマ、記事、絵本、小説、歌、ゲームなどなど何でも英語の勉強になります。
